I love a good quirky car and a recent "future classic" post reminded me about another car in a similar vein. But that post about the cobalt SS irked me a lot. You see, that wasn't the first time that the general did something like that to a FWD sport compact. In fact, I'd argue that they basically carried on the omni/charger GLH(s) tradition with this car. And reading the comments of that post, I saw all manner of quirky and rare machinery represented - The first-gen Neon ACR, the citation X-11, the original Focus SVT we got here in the US, the escort ZX2 S/R, and so on and so forth… and still no one mentioned this beast. So I bear it on myself to bring to you, the original GM pocket rocket in its full alphabet soup form - The 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Quad 442 W41.

Over the last year I have read countless articles about the abandoned exotics sitting in Dubai or some other Middle Eastern city. Usually these cars are photographed, covered in dust in some dark parking garage. ( I only assume has a lot of security) Other times these cars are photographed, again covered in dust, sitting on the side of some empty road but some failed construction project. My question for all of you is… Why doesn’t somebody do something about this!?!

My new (well, new to me) 2002 Chevrolet Impala LS needed to have her windshield replaced: it wasn't cracked, but years of highway driving by the previous owner had sandblasted the thing… So I took it into a national chain windshield specialist. Settled the details at the desk and went for a coffee nearby. When I came back and entered the garage, I saw my Impala sitting next to her grandmother, a 1963 hardtop coupe.

You know that list we secretly all keep of celebrities that are also true petrol heads? It's a short list. Dempsey, Tim Allen, Newman, Seinfeld, McQueen, Leno, etc... Well, get ready to add Adam Carolla to that list. OK stop laughing. Believe it or not, the guy from "Love Lines" & "The Man Show" would prefer to talk about things like adjustable sway bars and oil temperatures these days.

It's a simple trick, but one that's really handy and yet flies under the radar. But first, some background: Stick and Tig welding are both done with constant current machines(as opposed to constant voltage mig welders). That's why many tig machines available(like my Miller Dynasty 200DX) are also stick capable. When tig welding you've got the torch, which on top of supplying the juice is also plumbed for gas. Your electricity goes through the torch, runs down the tungsten electrode, and completes an arc on the steel(provided it's grounded to your machine). In this case the gas shields the molten puddle from the atmosphere and you add the filler rod separately.

"Ford hasn't had the best luck with its MyFord Touch and Sync systems, as the finicky infotainment system has been subject to a critical whooping while customer issues have helped sink Ford's IQS scores." True statement. I have a 2012 Ford Fiesta with the more plain Jane Sync you see above, thankfully it doesn't have MyFordTouch. My Dad has a 2013 Ford Taurus with MFT and I really don't like the MFT, though I do like some of the configurable mini-displays in the instrument pod. We find the system very distracting.

If you go to HAWK Vintage Weekend at Road America, there are two cars you cars you are guaranteed to see over, and over, and over again; the Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911. Keeping that in mind, I decided that when taking pictures of Porsches I would skip the 911's and focus on some of Stuttgart's other great machines.

You will never guess this: what does a VW Transporter (TDI 6 speed) have in common with a similar vintage - 3 year old - Cayman S? Well forget all the well documented familial machinations – these two do 70 in top (6/7 gear) at just over 2000rpm. And such is the variety - and boredom stimulated, unfettered brain game challenge - afforded to the motor trade “plater”.

I've kept my mouth shut so far, but the more I see about new regulations and classes with the new "merger" USCR, the less I like it. I like to follow ALMS, but haven't payed attention to the Grand Am series since the '08 Brumos Porsche Fabcar DP... (Do want). I don't even know where to start. I will be surprised if this is going to last past 2018.
As always, If I've missed something and you would like me to include it, let me know.

So the drawback of going to the FP is the huge number of comments. In the case of yesterday's, I simply copy and pasted Adam Ferrara's tweet. I didn't notice it was posted to the FP and all of sudden the comments poured in. Sigh. No thought even required in the post.

I don't often get huge number of comments when these posts get shared to Jalopnik which I am kind of happy about. So many notifications.
Unrelated to that, you had two other posts that I was going to include in this (the BMW i8 specs and the new Mini reveal) but I left them out because they got their own articles from Jalopnik. Still good posts but unfortunately they would've been slightly redundant if I included them here. Just wanted you to know that I didn't miss them and did appreciate them.

No problem. I beat the FP to the punch on both :) However, mine were boring and too long, at the i8 one was. I need to get punchier.

:) Yes, yes you do.
Love what you write, but usually when I have something FP'd it's a good combo of informative, snarky, and has either a: fast wagon, old 911, or GT40.
